BEASTARS ~ Review

Everything is furry here

Now,most of you already know about this anime as the manga version of it is so acknowledged and well received by the audience. The manga series is beautiful and extremely unique in its story telling, character development, background, character interrelationships in the world that the writer( Paru Itagaki) created. But the anime adaptation for this is also incredible. It did not disappoint us at all as Studio Orange really stepped up their game with this.

The story sets around a modern and civilized fictional world where anthropomorphic animals rule the land . However there is a clear divide between carnivorous and herbivorous. Our protagonist Legoshi,a grey wolf who attends Cherryton Academy spending his uneventful life in his school drama club accompanied by his numerous carnivorous friends. He attends the school drama club as a stage hand and leads a pretty normal day to day life co-existing with the many herbivorous animal classmates. In the society that legoshi and his friends live in the carnivores has a herbivorous diet to suppress their natural instinct to eat meat and to ensure the safety of a herbivore prey. It is also done to maintain order within the now civilized and tightly constructed society of animals.

However one day legoshi’s classmate Tem, an alpaca gets killed and eaten by an anonymous carnivore in the middle of the night in the school’s drama club. An uneasy tension starts to rise after this incident between the carnivore and herbivore divide. Meanwhile legoshi meets Haru, a tiny dwarf rabbit and falls in love . However as legoshi learns to move on from his friends death and deal with his inevitable and fruitless crush between carnivores and herbivores he slowly starts to observe the secret strings that tug on the seemingly balanced society.

The anime contains 12 episodes and aired during the Fall 2019. Each episode run for 22 min. It falls under the genre of slice of life, psychological drama with some shounen elements in it. It has 12 different songs for 12 different episode ending. I mean studio orange is flexing really hard on us.

It is my favourite anime of 2019.If you like your cat girls, dog girls or other animal girls then this anime will give you a whole another experience as it extensively covers the daily life and society of fully anthropomorphized animals. I loved it because it is so raw and distinctive. I also loved every single character and the animation too. The characters go through relatable mental hurdles, psychological difficulties which makes these animals seem way more human than they are. It really reflects upon what humanity experience in their everyday society life.
